Norton takes Number One!:

Local lad Justin Kell, better known as the owner of Glory, takes first place in the 2008 Moto Melee 1200 mile rally in northern California. After a hasty "truck & ride" up north from Los Angeles Justin made the start in the nick of time to set out on the gruelling rally on his unprepared Norton. Just miles into the tour the front fork seals blew out & consequently sent the front brake into a long slow downward spiral. The rear brake matched up to next to nil yet Justin pressed on. Passing & being passed in multiplicity by "Fast George" Justin nevertheless managed to fearlessly complete the 1200 miles, coming in "A-Number One on the 19" to win.

During an exclusive interview Justin was asked how he felt. "It was great even though every bump was jarring me like a jackhammer & in the dirt parts the whole bike was swimming out wildly in the back & surprising me every time it recovered, I managed to stay on & keep going. But afterwards I couldnt believe I made it home. About a mile from my house I could feel the tranny was ready to explode, 'Oh no' I thought, I'll have to get off & push this thing! But I rolled into the garage & stopped & I was frozen, like this (in a riding position, hands still clutching grips). My wife had to pull me off the bike. I just couldn't move anything, I wanted just one more mile! But the bike was done, I knew the trans was a bucket of nuts, the brakes & fork seals were cookie dough, the tires were ready for the sandal factory & my body, well look at me I still can't straighten up! But it was awesome! I didn't have time to prep the bike at all & I made it. It was just awesome! I still can't believe it."

After winning the number one plate & receiving the 3 foot tall loving cup trophy, Justin rode home from San Francisco 400 plus miles! Justin proved that his trusty Norton is still "unapproachable", and in terms of survivability, he certainly has found himself in the realm of Ekins County on this one!

As long as precedents are being set, firsts being won & daunting odds being overcome, we might as well toss in the fact that this is believed to be the first time anyone from Southern California has won this event. Hats off to Justin Kell - Hats off to Norton - hats off So Cal!

Time for a cool one & a chiropractor!
